I agree ...A complete game in a awesome setting. :)

I agree with you about the steampunk thing. While there are cool elements to it, there's a whole lot of weird western goodness that doesn't have to have steam-powered contraptions, robots, or anachronistic attitudes.Treyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04647628467658839351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986545310967925199.post-21095425991486851022011-04-13T23:39:08.611-07:002011-04-13T23:39:08.611-07:00Nicely done!Nicely done!Gordon Cooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12907319916602597979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986545310967925199.post-16807328244314458822011-04-10T15:32:55.183-07:002011-04-10T15:32:55.183-07:00Thanks guys! This is just a first pass and it hasn't had any playtesting yet, so there's still lots of holes and undefined sections.

Thanks for the link, Stuart. It looks like you've been giving this some thought for a while. Now I'm afraid I'm going to inadvertantly steal something from you. heh..

Also, dang you,Jim and your reasonable math! Seriously, I hadn't thought of it that way. I make some underlying assumptions here that I neglected to include in the write up.
Since a derringer type pocket pistol is usually a single shot weapon, or a best a two shot, and a weapon of last resort or surprise and not a weapon of war, I assume that it's going to be used in a situation where the target is caught flat footed. It's also largely ineffective past 10' or so and usually used at point blank range.
So, I'm thinking that a 25% chance of an outright kill with only a single shot available balances out ok against the fact that if you fail, the other guy is gonna plug you with multiple 45's.
I'm going to run a few gunbattle situations with the guys though, and run them both ways to see what happens. I very much appreciate you taking the time to bring this up!E.G.Palmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10229893317543621720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4986545310967925199.post-90105207387579670492011-04-10T09:21:11.349-07:002011-04-10T09:21:11.349-07:00I love this and I want to play too, but may I ask ...I love this and I want to play too, but may I ask a clarifying question? You say that maximum damage with a firearm is a "killshot". A derringer does d4 and a shotgun d10. I would get a killshot 25% of the time with the derringer and only 10% of the time with the shotgun. This seems wrong. Perhaps you could use a %killshot mechanic? Maybe damage AND a d20 is rolled and if the d20 comes in at some threshold, the shot is a killshot regardless of damage? Just a couple of ideas. Great work!
